Passion that formed business

Our company got established when two Sherpas with a common goal came to a mutual understanding. Our first Founder, Mr. Sumba Sherpa, was a young sheep-herder in his teens living in a village named Pangome, a quiet rest-stop for the mountain expedition groups and the trekkers. Watching those traveling groups and further talking with the guides, he developed a deep-seated desire to explore the mountains from a very young age. 

So, at the young age of 15, inspired by the stories of travel and treks, he ran away from home. He followed a trekking group and joined them as their porter on the journey. Time progressed, and he kept working as a porter for many trekking groups as they came and went.Over time, he acquired knowledge of many trekking areas and routes. Eventually, he gained the license to be a Trekking Guide. 

Similarly, our second founder, Mr. Ang Rita Sherpa had a similar lifestyle. He too was a sheep-herder in his village Kharikhola, which is near Pangome. Unlike, Mr. Sumba, Mr. Ang Rita was mostly with groups mainly heading for Climbing mountains. His expertise lies in his knowledge of organizing and climbing different Mountains throughout Nepal. 

Mr. Sumba and Mr. Ang Rita would meet each other often during the trek and also in Kathmandu and meetings of Sherpa Community and as they shared a mutual passion for exploring and adventure. They decided to combine their interests, experiences, and expertise of more than 40 years on both trekking and expedition to form a travel company called High Country Trekking.
