Our Gangtey Trek itinerary takes us into the very heart of Bhutan, the isolated valleys of Gangtey Gompa, Phobjikha, Gogona and Khotokha. Although this trek can be done any time from October to May, it is best done in April when the rhododendrons are in full bloom.
Day 1 Arrival at Pari Airport
Day 2 Exploration at Paro
Day 3 Paro to Thimphu
Day 4: Thimphu – Gangtey Gompa
Drive through the picturesque valleys and mountain slopes.
A tour to the Dochula-pass to view Higher Himalayas.
Punakha Valley sightseeing- Chimi Lhakhang ( the Temple of Fertility ), Punakha Dzong and other historic sites.
Overnight at Punakha.
On the way, visit Wangduephodrang Dzong.
Visit Gangtey Gompa Monastery ( from outside ).
Explore Phobjikha valley, famous for the Black Necked Cranes during winter.
Day 5: Gangtey – Gogona
(15 Km, 6 to 7 hrs)
The trail starts with a slow climb through the field and then ascends the Tsele.
Then the trail descends gradually through forest of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendrons.
Visit the village life of Gogona village.
Day 6: Gogona – Khotokha
(15 Km, 7 hrs, Altitude: 2,600 m)
A gradual climb to Shobjula ( slope)
Slowly descend down to the wide valley of Khotokha, a summer place of the people of Sha ( Wangduephodrang ).
Day 7: Khotokha – Chazam – Wangdue
3 to 4 hrs walk and a short ascend leads to Mulaila pass (9200 ft).
Trail through the ever-changing vegetation to the wangduephodrang bridge.
End of trek.
Day 8: Wangduephodrang – Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu.
Thimphu sightseeing and leisure afternoon.
Overnight at Thimphu
Day 9: Thimphu – Paro
Drive to Paro via Thimphu.
Paro Valley sightseeing.
Overnight at Paro.
